CannabisDependence.org ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. Visiting a site about cannabis dependence is a personal decision, and we have designed this site from the ground up to respect that. This policy explains what data we collect (very little), what we do with it (almost nothing), and what your rights are.
Our Privacy Philosophy
We believe that people exploring questions about their cannabis use deserve the highest level of privacy protection. Seeking information about dependence, withdrawal, or recovery should never create a data trail that could be used against you. Our approach is simple: collect as little as possible, store as little as possible, share nothing.
What We Collect
Cookies
We use one cookie:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
cookie_consent |
Records that you have acknowledged our cookie notice | 1 year |
That is the complete list. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies of any kind.
No Age Gate Cookie
Unlike our companion site TryCannabis.org, this site does not use an age verification gate and does not store an age-related cookie. Information about cannabis dependence and recovery resources should be accessible to anyone who needs it, regardless of age. If a teenager is struggling with cannabis use, we want them to be able to find help.
No Analytics
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other analytics or tracking platform. We do not track:
- Which pages you visit
- How long you stay on any page
- Where you came from or where you go next
- Your device type, browser, or operating system
- Your IP address (beyond what is required for basic web serving)
- Your geographic location
We have intentionally chosen not to collect this data. We do not need to know how many people visit our withdrawal guide at 3 AM. We just need it to be there when they do.
No User Accounts
This site does not have user accounts, login systems, profiles, or any form of user registration. You do not need to provide your name, email address, or any personal information to use any part of this site.
Self-Assessment Tool
Our self-assessment tool runs entirely in your browser. Your responses are not sent to our servers. They are processed locally on your device and are not stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere. When you close the page, the data is gone.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell data. We have no data to sell, and we would not sell it if we did.
- We do not share data with third parties. No advertisers, no data brokers, no partner organizations.
- We do not serve ads. There are no advertisements on this site.
- We do not build user profiles. We have no mechanism for identifying returning visitors or building behavioral profiles.
- We do not use fingerprinting. We do not use browser fingerprinting, canvas fingerprinting, or any other technique to identify your device.
Contact Form (Coming Soon)
When we launch our contact form, any information you voluntarily submit (such as your email address and message) will be used solely to respond to your inquiry. It will not be added to any mailing list, shared with any third party, or used for any purpose other than responding to you.
Third-Party Links
This site contains links to external resources including SAMHSA, Reddit communities, Marijuana Anonymous, SMART Recovery, and other organizations. When you click these links and leave our site, you are subject to those organizations' privacy policies, not ours. We encourage you to review their policies.
Your Rights
We respect your privacy rights under applicable law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because we collect virtually no personal data, most data-subject rights (access, deletion, portability) are satisfied by default — there is simply nothing to access, delete, or port.
However, if you have any questions about your rights or our practices, you have the right to:
- Request information about what data we hold (if any) related to you
- Request deletion of any data we may hold
- File a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated
Children's Privacy
This site does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (or under the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, this protection is inherent in our design.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we do not collect email addresses, we cannot notify you of changes directly — we encourage you to review this page periodically.
